A Tale of Two Exorcisms So Your Brain Ain’t an Idle Tool for Satan

We have a lot of names for the personification of evil: Satan, Lucifer, Old Nick, Old Scratch — but most of us call him “The Devil.” An angel exiled from Heaven for rebelling against God. Ruler of Hell, tempter of mortals to sin, yada yada yada.

Most of us think of Satan as a single entity of varying “physical” characteristics: beautiful or hideous or red or green or bright or dark or huge or human sized.

You get it.

Some view Lucifer as the leader of infernal legions who are collectively identified as Satan. That’s more a Puritan view, and one of the only Puritan views I think have any merit.

Regardless, the key to Satan’s power are all those dastardly demons. His agents. They help Satan in his mission: steering people away from Christ and destroying the works of God.

To carry out Satan’s work in the world, demons employ a variety of tactics. One tactic is possessing people. The reasons behind each possession are unique to the possessed, but the purpose is always to undermine God. We meager humans combat Satan by expelling these demons through…
